It's a lot of planning, but very rewarding to see smiles and people enjoying local food

It’s a lot of planning, but very rewarding to see smiles and people enjoying local food

This year will see the seventh “running” of the Taste of Indiana, which is Dig IN’s signature event: a showcase of Indiana food, beverage, and agriculture. I was hired in 2013-version 4.0 of the festival-to manage both the event, and at the time, the organizational business of the nonprofit. As I often tell people, I quickly realized that “it takes a village” to put on an event like ours, and every time I welcome someone into our Dig IN family I feel we’ve extended the community of Hoosier local food advocates.

Each year I’ve increased the amount of volunteer leadership involved so that we can be more successful at promoting local farms, foods, and restaurants, and also build a stronger local food community. Dig IN has evolved to become more than just a great experience on the last Sunday in August, as we’ve held other events like cocktail classes, beer dinners, a wine tour, and our second annual event Indulge, Imbibe, Imagine.

All of this means we need volunteer leaders and contributors more than ever! While the local food scene has grown in both size and notoriety, our work is far from done. There are still plenty of Hoosier food dollars that unnecessarily leave the state, farmers that have product left at the end of the season, and seats in locally owned restaurants that go unfilled.

Are you passionate about our cause? Interested in being connected to a greater movement of like-minded people? We need YOU to help put together the best Indiana-only food and drink event in the state, and all of the other exciting things we have going on! Now is your opportunity to sign up and attend the first meeting of our Event Advisory Board on Wednesday, January 27th at 6pm. Click here to RSVP via Eventbrite. The meeting will be an overview of opportunities to get involved, introduction of leaders, and your opportunity to decide where you fit in. Come be a part of this fun and rewarding work!
